THORNHILL, ON, May 15, 2013 /CNW/ -Road trip season has begun. For the month of May, CAA South Central Ontario (CAA SCO) has had 5,500 requests for TripTik route planners which include detour and construction information as well as food, lodging and gas locations.
Almost half of those requesting TripTiks this month are staying within Canada. Travellers will be heading to Ottawa for the Tulip Festival, Toronto for Victoria Day celebrations or to provincial parks for the first camping trip of the season.

- Quebec
Whether you are heading to the cottage, taking an extended road trip or staying close to home this long weekend, CAA SCO has helpful advice to get you on your way.
Get road trip ready:
- Plan your route ahead of time and bring a map as a backup to your GPS.
- Book accommodations in advance.
- Make travel insurance a part of your plans, whenever you are planning to travel outside of Ontario.
- Check the weather forecast before you leave.
Before you hit the road:
- Change your oil.
- Check your tire pressure and brakes.
- Replace worn or damaged wiper blades.
- Inspect air conditioning refrigerant levels and filters.
- Test your battery.
- Prepare to share the road safely with cyclists.
