CAA to present patroller of the year award
SCOTLAND, ON, Oct. 29 /CNW/ - Over 21,000 CAA School Safety Patrollers help make the journey to school safer for children each day. Jennifer Daniels exemplifies this and it's why she is CAA South Central Ontario's 2010 School Safety Patroller of the Year.
As a bus patrol captain, Daniels not only helped keep her fellow school mates safe, she helped motivate 20 children at Oakland-Scotland Public School to join the school safety patrol team this year.
"Jennifer was instrumental in maintaining and improving the CAA School Safety Patrol program at her school and acted as a role model for students across the province," said Inspector David Durant, Ontario Provincial Police.
The School Safety Patrol program's aim is to protect and educate elementary school children from becoming injured in traffic. It teaches safe crossing practices as well as increasing motorist awareness of children on and around school buses.
"Jennifer has demonstrated that being a school safety patroller involves much more than visibility in a reflective vest. It means being visible as a safety leader to her class mates every day of the school week," said Breanna Gaudet, Community Relations Specialist, CAA SCO. School
Safety Patrollers dedicate over 3.45 million volunteer hours each year. Over 800 schools in Ontario participate in the program and CAA SCO partners with over 55 Ontario Police services to deliver a top notch training program.
