The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation President and CEO Paul Alofs and INK Entertainment CEO Charles Khabouth aim to create a new type of charity walk experience
TORONTO, April 9 2015 /CNW/ - Cabana Pool Bar at Polson Pier will be the host venue for the inaugural Shoppers Drug Mart OneWalk to Conquer Cancer set for September 12 of this year in Toronto. The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation President and CEO Paul Alofs and INK Entertainment CEO Charles Khabouth said they aim to create a new type of charity walk experience for those wanting to do something big and bold to help conquer cancer.
"The Shoppers Drug Mart OneWalk to Conquer Cancer will be unlike any other charity walk for cancer in existence, and for the first time in the 13-year history, our walk participants will be raising funds for the cancer they care about most," said Paul Alofs, President and CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.
"When a walker registers, they select a cancer fund their dollars raised will be allocated to. Since we're giving a modern approach to fundraising, we want to apply the same concept to the event experience. We are delighted to have a start and finish venue that is cutting edge and hip, and is one of Toronto's most iconic hot spots. Cabana Pool Bar will take the event experience to a new level, offering participants a beautiful outdoor space, chaise-loungers and cabanas to rest our feet after we walk 25km. We are extremely grateful to Charles Khabouth and everyone at Cabana Pool Bar at Polson Pier for their generosity and hospitality for our inaugural OneWalk to Conquer Cancer," added Alofs.
Funds raised through the OneWalk to Conquer Cancer support Personalized Cancer Medicine at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, which enables world-leading clinicians and researchers to detect cancers earlier, diagnose with more precision, target treatment for each patient and support patients and their families throughout the cancer journey.
"For all of us at INK Entertainment and Cabana Pool Bar, this cause is quite personal," said Charles Khabouth, CEO of INK Entertainment.
"We really don't know anyone that has not been affected or touched by cancer in some way. Toronto is so fortunate to have one of the top 5 cancer research centres in the world on our doorstep, and we are happy to support the first annual Shoppers Drug Mart OneWalk to Conquer Cancer. We invite everyone to register and join the walk and look forward to seeing everyone here at the Cabana Pool Bar in September," Khabouth added.
The Shoppers Drug Mart OneWalk to Conquer Cancer will be a one-day, 25km walk through the diverse communities of Toronto. For over 12 years, participants have been walking for the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and since 2003, more than 50,000 walkers have raised more than $148 million for Personalized Cancer Medicine.
