CF disperses $1.85M nationally to effect meaningful change in Canada
TORONTO, Aug. 24, 2017 /CNW/ - Cadillac Fairview (CF) is pleased to announce the distribution of $1.85M across its corporate 2017 philanthropic commitments. These funds have been allocated to Cadillac Fairview's youth philanthropy platform, as well as numerous local community charities across Canada and CF's popular employee giving program, Building Communities. This is in addition to CF's signature fundraising events CF Run and CF Golf Classic (supporting SickKids Foundation, Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario and Women's College Hospital Foundation).
Advancing CF's youth empowerment philanthropy platform
Now in its second year, CF's youth philanthropy platform has welcomed seven new charitable partners that help transform communities that CF serves. This year's partners include Youth Impact Jeunesse, Fondations Jeunes En Tete, Fusion Jeunesse, Youth Services Bureau, Big Brothers Big Sisters Toronto, Eva's Initiatives, Merit Bursary Awards, Living City Foundation, Hamilton East Kiwanis Boys & Girls Club, oneROOF Youth Services, JA London, Resource Assistance for Youth, Safe Haven, Covenant House Vancouver, and Arts Umbrella. The 2017 donation of $500,000 exclusively to youth partnerships will inspire important change in the lives of young Canadians and the communities they live in. In addition, CF is continuing to build upon its relationship with eight of the charities named last year, and together CF and its 15 charitable partners will help reach youth from Moncton to Vancouver.
Charitable partners were selected based on alignment CF's core values of empowering and inspiring the next generation of leaders through invaluable programs and services ranging from street outreach and skills development, to bolstering creativity through the arts.
"CF's commitment and support for these charitable partners and programs is helping to shape and empower the leaders of tomorrow," said Ellen Williamson, Chair, Charitable Donations Committee, Cadillac Fairview. "The partners we have chosen are making a difference and breaking down barriers. These charities give youth an opportunity to find their voice, grow and create meaningful change, and we are proud to be a part of that journey."
Transforming and supporting communities
A building block of CF's youth philanthropy platform includes its partnership with United Way Toronto and York Region's Youth Success Strategy -- a bold initiative to encourage lifelong employability and to help break the cycle of poverty in families. Announced in February 2016, CF has committed $600,000 over four years as the first corporate sponsor for this initiative to help youth build the skills they need to secure gainful employment.
Investing in a stronger tomorrow through signature fundraisers
CF hosts two annual fundraisers in support of three Ontario healthcare foundations. More than $330,000 was raised in equal parts for SickKids and POGO through the CF Run in April. Earlier this month, CF raised $350,000 for Women's College Hospital Foundation through the CF Golf Classic, and proudly met its four-year commitment of $1-million in three years. This is the biggest fundraiser for the Company with one hundred per cent of funds generated exclusively through fundraising efforts and player registrations.
Building Communities
CF's employee giving program, Building Communities, encourages employees to actively volunteer in their communities for issues they feel strongly about. In 2017, CF has committed $200,000 towards helping employees make meaningful contributions to the charities of their choice. More than 200 employees have volunteered their time to giving back to their local communities this year alone.
Celebrating a one-year partnership anniversary with WE
CF is also celebrating one-year of its multi-year partnership with WE -- a family of organizations making doing good, doable. WE's domestic empowerment program, WE Schools, is dedicated to creating positive change in the lives of youth and over the past year, CF has embraced WE Schools at select properties; giving youth a platform to showcase their ideas for creating change in their community both locally and globally. To help celebrate this milestone, CF has created a video to highlight the accomplishments along the way.
Most recently in June, CF welcomed a pop-up WE retail store at CF Rideau Centre, making it the second WE retail location to open at a CF property after the opening of the first WE store at CF Toronto Eaton Centre in July 2016. CF has also taken part in multiple WE Day events across the country, most notably WE Day Canada, which took place July 2 on Parliament Hill, Ottawa to mark Canada's 150th birthday and celebrate the next generation of the country's change makers.
"Thanks to our partnership with CF we have been able to bring young leaders together and create important moments helping them realize the power a single idea can have in creating meaningful change in their local communities," said Craig Kielburger, co-founder of WE. "CF has helped continue to connect us with youth across the country and has been an invaluable partner over the course of the last year."
