CF's youth philanthropy donation supports essential services and programs for Canadian youth, ranging from education, health and wellness, employment and environmental sustainability programming. "Without charitable donations, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto could not provide the essential service of mentorship to children and youth in need," said Leanne Nicolle, President & CEO of BBBST. "Community partners like CF are key to the work that we do by enabling us to reach and empower communities. Intentional mentorship is a powerful tool of intervention that supports positive youth development and builds thriving communities. It is inspiring to see companies like CF making a deliberate investment in positive change for youth and their communities."
CF Gives Back to the Community
In 2017, CF committed a total of $1,850,000 to effect positive change in the communities it serves, with a focus on youth philanthropy and community-focused fundraising. In addition to local youth charitable partnerships, CF achieved the following:
- CF was the first corporate sponsor for United Way's Youth Success Strategy which helps young people secure sustainable employment. 2017 marked CF's second year of a four-year, $600,000 commitment to United Way's youth employment program.
- In 2016, CF partnered with WE, an organization focused on empowering youth in Canada. This multi-year partnership saw the launch of the first brick and mortar WE retail store which opened at CF Toronto Eaton Centre. Last year featured the opening of a second retail location at CF Rideau Centre in Ottawa and included a program of charitable events hosted at CF properties across Canada.
- The annual CF Run/Walk is a signature fundraiser that invites CF's business partners, tenants, customers and employees to come together to help raise $1 million over four years for The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO). Since 2008, CF has raised over $2.5 million through this event.
- Last year, CF met its commitment to raise $1 million for the Women's College Hospital Foundation through its annual CF Golf Classic event. These funds helped to support a new, ground-breaking ambulatory care facility which helps to keep patients out of hospital by improving prevention and treatment options.
- In order to encourage employees to give back to their communities, CF launched Building Communities, CF's charitable program that encourages employee volunteerism. This program allows employees to request a donation of up to $5,000 for a charitable organization to which they have dedicated their time. In 2017, CF contributed $216,000 to Building Communities and saw more than 300 employees participate in the program, totalling 400 volunteer hours and 21 per cent of CF's total workforce.
- CF's Charitable Donations Committee reviewed hundreds of submission from both large and small charities across Canada, and donated $700,000 to worthy causes providing medical treatment, research and a variety of community services to those in need of assistance.
