CF shopping centres prepare to host local WE School exhibits as part of multi-year partnership with WE
TORONTO, May 3, 2017 /CNW/ - Cadillac Fairview (CF) is entering the next wave of its partnership with WE, an organization that brings people together and gives them the tools to change the world, by highlighting the impact of WE Schools programming in select CF properties across Canada. As part of its ongoing philanthropic commitment to invest in communities where it operates and support youth empowerment initiatives, CF is proudly inviting students to showcase their meaningful action plans on how to improve their communities. From April to September, for one day, CF shopping centres that have been paired with 12 outstanding schools will host in-property educational events advocating for environmental, social or economic change.
"Since Cadillac Fairview announced our partnership with WE last June, we've seen firsthand the passion and drive that youth in our communities have for important causes," said Jason Anderson, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Cadillac Fairview. "Through the WE Schools partnership, our local shopping centres are directly investing in the neighbourhoods where they work and live by taking an active role to extend this passion to our consumers. Together with these inspiring young leaders, our hope is to enlighten our guests and deliver a positive takeaway aimed at motivating change."
"We're excited to partner with Cadillac Fairview to bring this one-of-a-kind opportunity to WE Schools across Canada, amplifying students' service learning efforts through a unique platform while raising awareness of the important work they're doing to make their communities and world a better place," said Craig Kielburger, co-founder of WE. "At each stage of the action planning process – from inspiration, to planning and action – CF properties across the country have been incredible community partners to these WE Schools, helping turn students dreams into reality."
CF and WE have been working closely over the past year to invite local schools to develop action plans to better their community. Representatives from CF partner centres had the opportunity to collaborate with students through motivational outreach sessions encouraging involvement. From May to September, 12 retail centres will bring these action plans to life by hosting one-day activations to raise awareness around the causes these schools are passionate about including environmental, social justice, and food and housing initiatives.
Participating CF retail locations taking place in the WE Schools program include:
- Western and Central Canada: CF Pacific Centre and CF Polo Park
- Ontario: CF Lime Ridge, CF Markville, CF Masonville Place, CF Rideau Centre, CF Sherway Gardens, CF Shops at Don Mills and CF Toronto Eaton Centre
- Quebec: CF Carrefour Laval, CF Fairview Pointe Claire and CF Promenades St-Bruno
WE Schools is an innovative program, grounded in the fundamentals of education and civic engagement redefining the educational approach to service-learning with a year-round program that challenges young people to learn about social issues and empowers them with the tools to take action on causes that matter to them. Delivered to more than 5,600 schools across Canada, WE Schools encourage and challenge students to take the research and life skills they've learned and implement them for both local and global initiatives.
CF GRANTS SCHOLARSHIPS TO WE's TAKE ACTION CAMP
In addition to the shopping centre activations with students, CF is awarding 14 scholarships on behalf of the participating schools identified above, as well as CF Chinook and CF Champlain. Recipients will have the opportunity to attend ME to WE's Take Action Camp this summer where youth can discover their passion, build confidence and develop leadership skills.
