Second WE store location highlights first year partnership anniversary with CF
OTTAWA, June 22, 2017 /CNW/ - Cadillac Fairview (CF), in partnership with WE, will be celebrating the opening of the second WE retail store on Saturday, June 24 at CF Rideau Centre in Ottawa. The pop-up location is planned to be in operation until January 2018 and is a physical manifestation of the WE movement; offering ME to WE products that empower people to change the world with their everyday consumer choices. The first WE retail store opened last July at CF Toronto Eaton Centre as part of the philanthropic partnership between CF and WE announced last summer. Leasing for both locations have been donated in-kind by CF.
"The first year of our multi-year partnership with WE has featured many important milestones and allowed CF to empower young leaders and develop meaningful relationships within the community, in particular connecting with youth through in-property events and local WE Schools programming," said Jason Anderson, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Cadillac Fairview. "The addition of a second WE store in the nation's capital ahead of Canada's sesquicentennial anniversary extends engagement opportunities to local youth and residents, as well as the millions of visitors and tourists expected this year. Together we can enable more people to take action and support important causes locally and globally."
CF Rideau Centre welcomes new WE Store location
The new 2,000-square foot WE store is located on level three on the south west end of the shopping centre and the opening coincides with the first anniversary of the partnership between CF and WE. This experiential store will feature interactive activities including a bead your own Rafiki bar; allowing people to customize their own bracelets and choose their own impact, as well a WE Selfie Zone where selfie-snappers can share their wishes for the future of Canada through collaborative video screens. All purchases made at the store will go towards helping a child or family in WE Charity's partner communities through ME to WE's Track Your Impact; a unique bar code that allows consumers to see exactly where they are contributing to positive social change. From school supplies and health care, to alternative income opportunities, customers will be able to shop for socially conscious goods that give back and track their impact in real time.
Consumer events on June 24 and July 2
To celebrate the new store opening, WE will host a grand opening activation on June 24 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Nordstrom Court (Level 2). Visitors can meet WE youth ambassador and WE Day Canada speaker, Hannah Alper, who will be on-site to help launch the new WE store. Also in attendance will be WE co-founder, Marc Kielburger and Mama Helen, one of the first women to join ME to WE Artisans in Kenya, who will be demonstrating the fine art of beading WE's famous Rafiki bracelets. Visitors will have an opportunity to take part in beading a 150-foot-long WE Are Canada Rafiki bracelet as an homage to Canada's 150th anniversary, alongside Hannah and Mama Helen.
"On the anniversary of WE's partnership with CF, we are pleased to reflect on the last year of activities that have allowed us to connect with the local communities that CF is a part of. The response to our first-ever brick-and-mortar retail location at CF Toronto Eaton Centre has been tremendous and we are excited to extend the WE movement to the nation's capital through our new WE Store location at CF Rideau Centre," said Roxanne Joyal, CEO of ME to WE . "We look forward to continuing to make an impact with Canadian youth through our partnership with CF."
The three-year partnership between CF and WE supports several youth empowerment initiatives, events and celebrations across CF's retail properties nationally, giving young people an opportunity to get involved in communities where CF operates. As part of this partnership with WE and WE Schools, CF will award scholarships to outstanding students from local communities, providing them with the opportunity to attend ME to WE's Take Action Camp next summer where youth can discover their passion, build confidence and develop leadership skills.
As an extension of the multi-year partnership, CF is pleased to take part in the WE Day Canada celebration on July 2 on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. The outdoor event will bring together exceptional Canadian youth paired with iconic national celebrities and thought leaders who will take the WE Day Canada stage for an evening of talented performances, inspiring speeches and incredible celebration.
