-Matt Comyns joins firm's Stamford office to lead Cyber Security Practice-
TORONTO, April 3, 2017 /CNW/ - Retained executive search firm The Caldwell Partners International Inc. (TSX: CWL) today announced that Matt Comyns has joined the firm as the managing partner of the Cybersecurity Practice, and as a member of the Stamford office.
Mr. Comyns will focus on leading the firm's growth in the rapidly growing cyber security space, recruiting chief information security officers and their top lieutenants in information security for large global corporations and fast-growing private companies, as well as cyber security consultants for leading professional services firms and top executives for cyber security technology companies.
"The scale of cybercrime has skyrocketed in the last 5 years, and – not surprisingly – cyber professionals are more in demand than ever before," said Jim Bethmann, co-managing partner of Caldwell's Technology, Media & Telecoms Practice. "Matt is the market maker in this space, having been on the ground since hacking and cybercrime started showing up on the radar of major corporations. His successful track record of recruiting high-ranking executives in this burgeoning space, coupled with his corporate operating experience, make him extremely well-placed to both advise clients on the need to shore up their cyber security expertise, and lead and grow our practice in this important area. With the addition of Matt to our team, we now lead the sector in content and knowledge to better serve the critical needs of our clients."
Mr. Comyns previously co-led Russell Reynolds Associates' Global Cyber Security Practice, within the firm's Technology Sector. Prior to joining the executive search industry, Mr. Comyns was CEO of Pacific Epoch, a consulting firm specializing in market intelligence and research for US-based companies investing and expanding into China—until the firm's successful sale. Prior to that, he was a founding partner of BlackInc Ventures, a strategic advisory firm providing digital media sector clients with leading outsourced solutions for business, sales, and corporate development.
Before launching BlackInc Ventures in 2004, Mr. Comyns worked with CNET Networks Inc. holding various positions including senior vice president/publisher of News.com, vice president of business development, and director of business development at Snap.com. He also served as a sales manager for Dow Jones Interactive in Asia and as a founding board member of The Online Publishers' Association.
"Our strategy continues to be to add very experienced, content-driven search professionals to our partner team, to the betterment of our ability to serve our clients," said John Wallace, chief executive officer. "Cyber security is an area of tremendous growth, and we are thrilled to be adding a partner of Matt's expertise and caliber to our team."
Mr. Comyns holds a BA in political science from Bucknell University and is conversational in Mandarin. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors for Music National Service, a national nonprofit organization and movement that supports music as a strategy for public good.
Based in the firm's Stamford office, Mr. Comyns joins Peter Reed, leader of the firm's Insurance Practice, Glenn Buggy, leader of the firm's Legal, Risk and Regulatory Oversight Practice, and Michael DeCosta, leader of Caldwell's Professional Services Practice.
