Calgary boosts energy with oil sands convention
CALGARY, July 19, 2012 /CNW/ - The Calgary TELUS Convention Centre welcomes the 2012 Oil Sands and Heavy Oil Technology Conference from July 24 - 26. Nearly 900 attendees from over 32 countries attended the Oil Sands Technology Conference in 2011, giving the CTCC the opportunity to help event organizers, Pennwell, deliver an event that is bigger in size and bolder in ideas this year. The conference will cover the full spectrum of technologies from production to environmental remediation, with attendees collaborating on issues like surface disturbance and water conservation. The event isn't just about sharing, it's about shaping the future of the oil sands industry one idea at a time.
Over 1.5 million barrels of crude are produced daily in the oil sands, making Alberta a powerful and progressive energy leader. But with obvious economic benefits, the oil sands industry continues to face a number of issues - issues that need to be resolved soon. From operating problems to environmental issues, the Oil Sands Technology Conference gives industry leaders the chance to come together, collaborate and find ways to meet global demand in the most responsible way possible.
While Calgarians will reap the immediate economic benefits of the event, Canada and North America will continue to enjoy the long-term rewards. Oil sands development is expected to generate more than $307 billion in tax revenue across Canada over the next 25 years and create an additional 450,000 jobs. And every dollar invested in the oil sands creates about $9 worth of economic activity that will fuel the economy of Canada, the U.S. and the entire world. But as extraction continues to improve both technically and economically, the focus of the annual conference remains on making operations more efficient and more environmentally sustainable.
With attendees focused on improving all aspects of oil sands production, the Calgary TELUS Convention Centre (CTCC) is focused on delivering the best facilities and service for the important event.
From leading edge conference rooms to innovative technology that allows leaders to share industry advances, the CTCC ensures everyone from engineering consultants to business development managers can showcase their progress, highlight new challenges and improve the economies of Alberta and Canada. According to Heather Lundy, Director of Marketing Calgary TELUS Convention Centre, the CTCC has hosted a number of large oil and gas conventions, including the Global Petroleum show. "The World Petroleum Congress kicked off our 2000 expansion and opened the doors to the Oil Sands and Heavy Oil Technology conference, which is one of the biggest in the industry."
As one of Canada's premier convention and meeting facilities since opening its doors in 1974, the TELUS Convention Centre is committed to building the profile of Calgary and supporting the industries that allow us to be a dynamic global leader. The Oil Sands and Heavy Oil Technology conference is just another great example of how together, we're producing energy for the future.
