135 students set to attend "Best of the Best in Calgary," receiving awards for achievements in math and reading excellence
CALGARY, Oct. 23 2015 /CNW/ - Twenty-three Kumon centres from Calgary will celebrate their students at the inaugural "Best of the Best" awards ceremony. The city-wide event will acknowledge students with a medal and special diploma for their achievements in math and reading in twelve different categories. Such categories include students studying 3 years above their current grade level (what Kumon calls Advanced Student Honour Roll Level 3 – ASHR3) to students who have reached high school math and reading comprehension levels before Grade 6.
"We're unbelievably proud of our students and their achievements," says Celeste Kirychuk, branch manager, Kumon Canada. "The Kumon method works to instill independent learning skills, helping children build the skills they need to tackle problems and challenges on their own. We're thrilled to celebrate those successes today."
Attendees will also have the opportunity to attend a special panel discussion featuring former Kumon students – local and international – who have achieved great success in their careers, in part because of their enrollment in the educational program.
Kumon Canada is one of the largest after-school math and reading programs for children ages three to 16, offering an alternative to conventional tutoring. Kumon provides students with worksheets tailored to their level in math and reading. These worksheets cover everything from counting to calculus, from phonics to Shakespeare and include examples of how to problem solve and self-learn new concepts independently.
