CALGARY, March 14, 2014 /CNW/ - CAWST, the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology, is holding its annual World Water Day celebration - Calgary's main World Water Day event - on Tuesday, March 18.
The fun, free and family-friendly event celebrates local youth actions and global cooperation at the beautiful Devonian Gardens in downtown Calgary. The event runs from 4:30 - 7:00 pm.
The World Water Day celebration highlights the achievements of Calgary-area students through CAWST`s Youth Wavemakers program towards solving local and global water issues. The event will feature 29 youth teams working on local and global action projects. The event is also an opportunity to learn about how a local organization, CAWST, is working in more than 60 developing countries to improve worldwide access to safe drinking water.
"World Water Day is a celebration of local and global action that is improving access to safe drinking water, while also a chance to refocus on the challenges that remain in front of us," CAWST CEO Shauna Curry said. "In Calgary and across the country, youth are leading efforts to build water knowledge and awareness through the Youth Wavemakers program. This year's World Water Day will be an inspiring showcase of their work."
