Eligible organizations are encouraged to apply for funding
GATINEAU, QC, Sept. 8, 2017 /CNW/ - Technology and globalization are accelerating the need for workers to learn and develop new skills. Access to labour market information will help workers, employers and post-secondary education institutions address the changing skills needs in many industries.
To improve access to timely, relevant sectoral labour market information, today the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, announced the launch of a new Call for Proposals for the Sectoral Initiatives Program.
Through this Call for Proposals (CFP), industry partners such as workplace organizations, employers and Indigenous organizations can apply for funding for projects which will help industries identify, forecast, and address current and future human resources and skills issues, which includes attracting, integrating and retaining Canadian workers, including Indigenous people and recent immigrants.
The CFP will be seeking proposals for multi-year projects targeting the development and dissemination of sectoral labour market information, National Occupational Standards, certification programs and accreditation systems for key industry sectors including manufacturing, minerals, quarrying, oil and gas extraction, construction, agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, utilities, transportation and warehousing, and information and cultural industries. Priority will be given to projects that examine issues related to gender, Indigenous people and the changing nature of work.
By improving access to timely, relevant sectoral labour market information, the Government is helping employers address the skills needs of their workers, and helping educational and training institutions better align their training with demand.
Quote
"Canada is home to a highly skilled workforce, but rapid technological change and globalization are accelerating the need for workers to learn and develop new skills. With the labour market data our government is helping to generate, employers can better address the skills needs of their workers, while educational and training institutions can ensure the training they provide matches employers' needs."
