Genworth Canada Launches 7th Annual Meaning of Home Contest
TORONTO, Oct. 1, 2013 /CNW/ - Starting today, students in grades 4, 5 and 6 can help raise money for Habitat for Humanity Canada (Habitat) through the simple art of writing. The Meaning of Home contest, which has raised more than $570,000 for Habitat, invites students coast to coast to submit a written essay on what home means to them.
Top prize is a $60,000 grant from Genworth Canada to the winner's local Habitat affiliate. Additionally, for each entry submitted, Genworth Canada will donate $5 to Habitat. This year, television personality Scott McGillivray, another strong supporter of Habitat, joins the Genworth Canada final judging panel to help pick the winner.
"While our support for Habitat extends far beyond The Meaning of Home, this contest is the highlight of our partnership and something we are extremely proud of," said Linda Belanger, Community Relations Leader with Genworth Canada. "Since launching in 2007, our employees have read more than 15,000 entries and we never cease to be amazed by the inspiring and thoughtful words of these young authors."
Genworth Canada has redesigned the contest website for a more dynamic experience, including a map that tracks entries by region. Help put your province or territory on the map by encouraging your students or children to participate. Genworth Canada is hoping to beat last year's record number of 5,000 entries.
"The Meaning of Home contest does more than provide financial support to build Habitat homes," said Kevin Marshman, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Canada. "By empowering children to make a difference in their communities, this contest is helping us raise awareness among today's youth of the importance of having a safe place to call home."

The contest winner and runner-ups will be announced in January 2014.
