CAMH to open new Centre for Therapeutic Brain Intervention with $7.4 million gift announcement

TORONTO, Nov. 6, 2012 /CNW/ - On November 13, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) will open its Centre for Therapeutic Brain Intervention.

The centre will be the first in Canada to offer Magnetic Seizure Therapy, an innovative new treatment which uses magnetic pulses in the treatment of severe and persistent mood disorders. CAMH's other brain stimulation treatment and research programs using Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) will also be located in the new centre.

The event will include the announcement of a significant $7.4 million gift of support by Toronto philanthropists.

Media will have the opportunity to tour the facility and interview the philanthropists, physicians, researchers and a patient who has been treated at the centre.
