HALIFAX, Oct. 19, 2016 /CNW/ - Can Lixar's Data Science team make a music stage smart at HPX? Halifax Pop Explosion (HPX) Executive Director, James Boyle says "yes". "Bringing new and creative ideas to light is something that we support but I do have one question: what exactly is a smart stage?"
Most stages in their current form are simple structures made of wood. No intelligence. No connectivity.
In the weeks leading up to the Halifax Pop Explosion music festival, Lixar aimed to make the stage smart through and an end-to-end connected experience which brings Mobile + IoT + Data Science + Data Visualization + Cloud technology together.
How? Through good vibrations. Actual seismographic data will be captured during HPX LIVE music performances. As a primary sponsor of the festival, Lixar will be presenting ... and capturing data during performances by Pup, White Lung, Royal Canoe and Hey Rosetta.
Performance vibrations recorded on stage and through floor vibrations from the fans will be sent to the Azure cloud. Data science will be applied to understand if a performer or band's energy level on stage translates to a more engaged and energetic response from the audience. In essence, does one fuel the other and vice-versa?
Data will be cross compared to better understand sentiment analysis through social media. Will there be a correlation between a positive (or negative) performance and an increase or decrease in social media shares? Positive or negative sentiment?
Can festival goers experience this with their own eyes? You bet. The #goodvibration data will be shown through data visualization. Tableau will help turn a life-less Kraken into a vibrant sea creature. The more energetic the band and the crowd -- the more vibrant the Kraken is expressed through creative data art.
Lixar will be promoting Lixar presents show lineups through Eddystone beacons at five Halifax locations. The beacons will connect to newer mobile phones without the installation of an actual mobile app. The physical web connects a specific physical space to a relevant and geo-specific message.
"Live music connects us to community", said Bill Syrros, Lixar CEO. "Finding a way to connect creative and innovative smart technology during HPX is a neat thing to do."
Halifax Pop Explosion (HPX) is an annual festival that presents over 150 artists in more than 15 venues across the city. HPX has a long-standing tradition of presenting the best in new and innovative music from across Canada and the world. #HPX2016
