Vista, June Dresses and United Way empowering women through dress for second year
CALGARY, May 20, 2014 /CNW/ - Vista Projects Limited (Vista), a privately-owned, Calgary-based oil and gas engineering firm, announced today its sponsorship of June Dresses, a unique fundraising initiative that supports United Way.
Last year's June Dresses pilot campaign was a huge success, raising over $10,000 for United Way and local programs focused on empowering women. Vista was a United Way Spirits of Gold finalist for its work with the 2013 campaign.
"Thanks to Vista's incredible community leadership, June Dresses will be even bigger and better this year," says Lucy Miller, President and CEO of United Way of Calgary and Area. "June Dresses is a wonderful way to make a difference in our community. It's an upbeat, positive approach and I'm proud to be participating. I invite other Calgary women to do the same!"
The concept of June Dresses is simple: sign up online and create a personal profile page, wear a dress each day in June, share photos and updates throughout the month on social media networks and raise funds for a great cause. More information and participant registration is available at www.junedresses.ca.
"I'm proud that Vista has gotten behind a charitable campaign that specifically supports women," says Cristina Baciu, Principal, Process Engineering Group Lead at Vista. "This is a great way for women in an engineering company, which is typically male-dominated, to connect with one another and bond over a common activity and purpose."
Money raised through June Dresses supports All In for Youth, a citywide initiative developed by United Way. Its goal is to reduce high school dropouts in Calgary by 50%. June Dresses funds a sub-strategy called All In for Girls that focuses specifically on female students. Led by United Way's Women's Leadership Council, All In for Girls empowers Calgary girls to complete high school with confidence, connections and choices.
