Canada - Iraq Friendship Association
MONTREAL, March 1 /CNW Telbec/ - A group of concerned Canadians, mostly of Iraqi origin, teamed up to create the Canada Iraq Friendship Association(CIFA) - Association d'Amitié Canada-Irak Inc. (AACI). CIFA, based in Montreal is a Canadian non-profit organization with a federal charter; it is non-political and non-religious. CIFA wishes to promote a strong friendship between Canada and Iraq, both at the official and people level. It seeks to develop a cooperative and active relationship between Canadian and Iraqi institutions while promoting business, trade, technology transfer, as well as education, art, archeology and agriculture between the two countries.
CIFA recently met with the Minister of Immigration the Honorable Jason Kenney to discuss various issues of concern to Iraqi immigrants, refugees and those who have applied for immigration.
CIFA's founding members reflect in large part, the spectrum of Iraq's religious and ethnic societies; they include university professors, engineers, lawyers, dentists, businessmen and community leaders. CIFA invites everyone who believes in the goals and spirit of the organization, to join as members. Anyone wishing to join is kindly requested to email their personal details to [email protected] . A general meeting of the members shall be held within three months to elect a permanent Board of Trustees and Executive Committee. All new members shall be eligible to run for office and to vote.
