Canada Celebrates Right to Know Week

GATINEAU, QC, Sept. 24, 2018 /CNW/ - The Information Commissioner of Canada, Caroline Maynard, will be joining Canadians across the country, along with her provincial and territorial counterparts, to celebrate Right to Know Week from September 24 to 28, 2018.

Each year, on September 28, Right to Know Day is celebrated around the world. In Canada, an entire week of activities is organized to raise awareness of the right to access government information, while promoting freedom of information as essential to both democracy and good governance. 

"This is my first time celebrating Right to Know Week as Information Commissioner," stated Commissioner Maynard. "I am looking forward to this year's activities, which are aimed at promoting transparency within government institutions, and raising awareness of the right of access among all Canadians".  

Over the course of Right to Know Week, the Office of the Information Commissioner will be posting daily messages on its digital platforms.
