TORONTO, May 13, 2015 /CNW/ - Canada India Foundation (CIF) will be hosting its 5th theme-based forum on Canada India relations, the Canada India Healthcare Summit, on May 19 and 20, 2015 at the Omni King Edward Hotel and the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.

Canada India Foundation's theme-based forums have become the signature events for serious multi-dimensional recommendation-focused conversation on opportunities for Canada and India to expand bilateral trade and strengthen relations", says Dr. V.I. "Lucky" Lakshmanan, Co-Chair of the Summit and also Chair of CIF.
Taking place at the Omni King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto, the Summit will discuss South Asian health issues, Rehabilitation, Long-term Care, Digital Health and Smart Hospitals, Distance Care, Rural Care, Pharmaceuticals and Generic Drugs, Research Collaboration, Wellness, Alternative Healthcare Policy and Healthcare policy as well as explore business and investment opportunities in healthcare in Canada and India. The 2-day event will sandwich a Gala Dinner, which will take place on May 19 evening at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
More than 60 speakers and leaders in healthcare from the two countries will be speaking at the event. Speakers and participants will include senior executives from from Indian companies such as Apollo Hospitals, P.D. Hinduja Hospital, Cadila Pharmaceuticals, Aurobindo Pharmaceuticals, Sankara Nethralaya, Aravind Eye Care, Dr. Agarwal Hospitals, Asian Bariatrics. They will be joined by Canadian companies such by Apotex, Meditech,Teknoscan, hospital systems such as Toronto Rehab, Sick Kids, William Osler Health Centre, Markham Stouffville Hospital, Trillium Health Centre and by Canadian universities (University of Toronto, University of British Columbia, McMaster University, McGill University and York University). India's traditional healthcare solutions will also be represented by the Indian Government's Ministry of AYUSH.
"One of the main areas that will be addressed is generic drugs" says Mr. Ramesh Chotai, Co-Chair of the Summit as well as pharmacist and leading provider and importer of generic drugs. India is second in the world in manufacture of generic drugs and second only to USA as the exporter of drugs to Canada. The Summit will bring together stakeholders in both countries to discuss the need for clearly defined regulations and to ensure that low-cost drugs go hand in hand with high-quality.
