Canada India Foundation Congratulates Governments of Canada and India on Civil Nuclear Agreement Milestone
TORONTO, April 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Canada India Foundation (CIF), a not-for-profit public policy organization committed to strengthening of Canada India relations, congratulated the Governments of Canada and India for signing the Appropriate Arrangement pursuant to the Canada India Nuclear Cooperation Agreement, which will take effect as soon as the Nuclear Cooperation Agreement is brought to force by the two countries.
Welcoming the achievement of this significant milestone in the Nuclear Cooperation Agreement, Barj S. Dhahan, Chair, Canada India Foundation, said "CIF has been a consistent vocal champion of the civil nuclear agreement between Canada and India and had made it the primary policy recommendation at the Canada India Energy Forum organized by CIF in 2009". "It is significant that the announcement of the signing of the Appropriate Arrangement was made by Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, Honourable Joe Oliver, at the headquarters of Cameco Corporation, whose then-CEO, Mr. Gerald Grandey had been a key speaker and participant at the Canada India Energy Forum", he said.
"Both Canada and India will benefit greatly when the Nuclear Cooperation Agreement is finally in force, with greater assurance of energy security for India and jobs for Canadians, generated through Canadian technology" added Mr. Rahul Shastri, National Convenor of CIF. "The nuclear cooperation potential was a key reason behind CIF's recommendation of a rethinking of the bilateral trade target for Canada and India to a figure greater than $15 billion, as stated in its submission to the House of Commons Standing Committee on International Trade in November 2012" he added.
Canada India Foundation (CIF) is a national, non-profit, non-partisan, non-governmental organization formed to foster support for stronger bi-lateral relations between Canada and India; to educate Canadians on the changing face of India; and to increase the participation of Indo-Canadians in the public policy process in Canada.
