Festival favourite starring Daniel Radcliffe will open across Canada August 1 with original title
TORONTO, March 14, 2014 /CNW/ - Entertainment One (eOne) today confirmed that THE F WORD, starring Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan and directed by Michael Dowse (Goon) will open across Canada on August 1st with its playful original title despite the decision to rename the film for US release.
"The US distributor was under certain MPAA restrictions that do not affect us in Canada so we are able to keep THE F WORD, the title we all loved from the beginning," said Frank Mendicino, Senior Vice President of Marketing, eOne Films Canada.
THE F WORD premiered as one of the hottest films at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival and was subsequently named one of Canada's TOP 10 by TIFF and received five Canadian Screen nominations including Best Picture and Best Director. Elan Mastai won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
"We are pleased eOne has decided to use the original name; we premiered at TIFF as THE F WORD and the title has built up so much goodwill in Canada, it would seem remiss to call it anything else here, " commented Producer David Gross.
Wallace (Daniel Radcliffe) and Chantry (Zoe Kazan) meet at a party while reading refrigerator magnet poetry and find that they have great chemistry.... as friends. They form a relationship in which they talk about everything from movies to illnesses to disappointing Christmas presents. It's heavy interest at first sight but there is a problem- Chantry has a serious boyfriend. Wallace falls hard for Chantry and Chantry must deal with her growing feelings for Wallace. Should friendship be squashed due to budding romantic influences or can they control their desire to simply enjoy the benefits of a platonic relationship. Told through their many meetings over the course of a year and interwoven with both Wallace and Chantry's hyperactive imagination, The F Word hilariously demonstrates the complications of timing. All of their insecurities, regrets and victories are exposed.
THE F WORD is directed by Michael Dowse (Goon) with a screenplay by Elan Mastai (The Samaritan) based on the play "Toothpaste and Cigars" by T.J. Dawe and Michael Rinaldi. David Gross and Jesse Shapira of No Trace Camping (Goon) produce with Macdara Kelleher of Fastnet Films and Andre Rouleau of Caramel Films. It opens in theatres everywhere on August 1.
