Charities across the country receive donations
OTTAWA, Sept. 25, 2017 /CNW/ - Canada Post today announced the 2017 recipients of the Canada Post Foundation for Children grants. Across the country, 103 organizations will share more than $1.1 million.
The Foundation exists to improve the lives of Canadian children by supporting organizations devoted to their health and well-being. It raises funds through an annual in-store donation campaign and special stamp release, as well as a year-round, employee payroll donation program and local fundraisers. All money is donated to organizations in the province or territory where it was raised. Since 2012, the Foundation has awarded more than $6 million to more than 550 projects.
"The Foundation is able to support important youth programs across the country due to the hard work of our employees and the generosity of Canadians," says Deepak Chopra, President and CEO of Canada Post. "We're proud of this legacy and the impact it has had in the communities we serve."
The Foundation gave grants to organizations in all provinces and territories, including:
- Nanny Angel Network, Ontario – $20,000 to fund free, in-home support for children 12 and under whose moms have been diagnosed with cancer, are in palliative care, or have died. Nanny Angels are trained to address the long-term emotional and psychological impacts of living with a terminally ill parent. The Foundation grant will pay for more Nanny Angels in the GTA.
- Muscular Dystrophy Canada, Nova Scotia – $50,000 to start a system navigation program serving all of Atlantic Canada, which will help young people with progressive neuromuscular disorders access better care and reduce their isolation.
- The Native Education College, British Columbia – $22,000 to launch an intensive four-week, summer math program for Aboriginal children.
- Dans La Rue, Quebec – $20,000 to help respond to the mental health needs of homeless and at-risk youth. The grant will support counseling, staff training and shelter expenses.
