Canada Post Community Foundation for Children now accepting grant applications for local initiatives Français
OTTAWA, March 3, 2015 /CNW/ - The Canada Post Community Foundation for Children's annual call for grant applications is now open. Registered charities, school programs or community organizations are eligible to apply for a share of $1.2 million of funding from the Foundation, which supports community organizations that make a difference for children and youth in Canada.
The Foundation takes a grassroots community approach to raising money. It uses Canada Post's vast network of post offices across the country for an annual fundraising campaign. Funds are raised through donations at the counter, the sale of special fundraising stamps and employee fundraisers in the community.
This approach has helped the Foundation grant more than $2.8 million to more than 215 community projects in 2013 and 2014. The funds has supported a wide range of special initiatives. It has helped children with terminal illness go to summer camp and has reduced waiting times for teens seeking mental health support. It has provided therapy dogs for children who have experienced trauma, and contributed to literacy programs to improve the job prospects of disadvantaged youth.
The Foundation also supported breakfast programs, playground equipment, computers in classrooms, nutrition classes, sports initiatives and libraries across the country.
"Each fall our employees engage their communities to help raise funds for the Foundation. The funds raised in each province, stay in each province, and employees are rightfully proud of what their efforts can mean to their communities," says Deepak Chopra, President and CEO of Canada Post and Chair of the Canada Post Community Foundation for Children.
Qualified organizations have until April 17 to apply for funding to support their projects. For eligibility criteria and more information on the application process, please visit canadapost.ca/community.
