Canada is elected to UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions

That is why the Government of Canada is proud that Canada has been elected to UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
The election took place during the sixth ordinary session of the Conference of Parties to the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. During the session, Parties to the Convention, including Canada, discussed capacity-building projects in developing countries supported by the International Fund for Cultural Diversity, to which the Government of Canada contributed $100,000 in December 2016. Parties also adopted new operational guidelines on implementing the Convention in the digital environment and reiterated the need to promote the Convention's objectives in various international forums. Canada took to opportunity to reference the importance of engaging directly with digital platforms to ensure that local content is made available and discovered.
