TORONTO, Dec. 14, 2012 /CNW/ - CTV's trailblazing hit Original Drama FLASHPOINT came to a conclusion with its biggest audience ever last night: a series-high 2.1 million viewers. Closing out the final season with an average audience of 1.8 million viewers, last night's emotional and historic finale propelled the Canadian series to a final 10 p.m. timeslot win in total viewers and all key demos over its simulcast American competition, and making it the most-watched broadcast of a Canadian series in 18 months.* Overall, 12.5 million Canadians watched FLASHPOINT in its fifth and final season.
FLASHPOINT was the #3 program of the night, behind only THE BIG BANG THEORY (3.9 million) and TWO AND A HALF MEN (2.7 million). In Toronto, the finale achieved a 6.1 rating for the greatly anticipated final episode. Airing just hours before the finale, the CTV Original Special FLASHPOINT: THE FINAL SALUTE won its timeslot with 772,000 viewers, growing its ETALK lead-in by 20%. Viewers can catch an encore broadcast of the poignant tribute special on Wednesday, Dec. 26 at 1 p.m. ET on CTV and at 5 p.m. ET on CTV Two.
"Last night's FLASHPOINT audience is a tribute to everyone involved in this history-making television series," said Phil King, President, CTV Programming and Sports. "We could not be more proud of what this remarkable show accomplished over the past five seasons. To all the cast, producers, crew, and of course the viewers who made FLASHPOINT the success story that it is, we say a final heartfelt thank-you."
In celebration of the finale last night, CTV hosted the ultimate FLASHPOINT series finale screening experience at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto. More than 500 lucky fans watched the final two episodes on the big screen prior to the live broadcast on CTV, followed by an up-close and lively Q & A session with the cast and producers.
Online, the conversations, recaps, and post-mortems continued through the night and into the early hours of the morning as FLASHPOINT was a trending topic on Twitter. Between Part 1 of the finale, which aired last week, and last night's final episode, #FPCTV was used on Twitter 4,500 times and mentioned almost 12,000 times on social networks.
For FLASHPOINT fans not ready to say goodbye just yet or who want to catch up, encore presentations of the two-part finale will air Sunday, Dec. 16 from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, with Part 2 also airing Monday, Dec. 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CTV Two.
