MONTREAL, July 10, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Louis Moubarak, president and chief executive officer, Canada World Youth (CWY), and Bobby Cameron, Office of the Second Vice Chief, responsible for Lands and Resources Commission, Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) today confirming their organizations' strong mutual commitment to Saskatchewan's First Nation youth. The two organizations will work together to ensure that these youth possess the necessary knowledge, skills and opportunities to enable them to assume leadership roles in their own communities as well as in international cooperation. CWY and FSIN will be signing specific protocols over the coming months as they implement this new cooperative working relationship.
"CWY and the FSIN, through the FSIN's Environmental Youth Council," explains Moubarak, "will be identifying specific activities and opportunities - leadership, mentorship and entrepreneurship opportunities - for First Nation youth, with a focus on experiential educational opportunities in international cooperation, such as the programs CWY has been operating over the past 40 years. In 2011-12 alone, CWY offered international leadership programs to 211 Aboriginal youth volunteers from across Canada.
According to Vice Chief Cameron, "both our organizations believe in the importance of consulting and involving all those who will be affected by our joint initiatives. And of course, these initiatives must be compatible with our respective missions and support the purpose of this agreement. This is why CWY and the FSIN decided to adopt six guiding principles to inspire our collaborations."
