Canada World Youth Receives Funding Extension From the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada

MONTREAL, Nov. 12, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada World Youth (CWY) has received confirmation from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD), that the funding for the organization's volunteer cooperation program will be extended for an additional year.

"We welcome this decision and want to thank the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and Minister for La Francophonie, and his departmental staff for their commitment to Canada's volunteer cooperation sending program", said CWY President and CEO, Rita S. Karakas. "We appreciate Minister Paradis' openness and interest in the work being done by our organization, which has touched more than 36,000 youth and over 12, 000 host families in 67 countries over its 42 years of existence.  In 2013-14 alone, CWY will engage and transform close to 1,000 young people through their participation in one of the 37 Youth Leaders in Action exchanges."

Through tailored programming, CWY will also engage Aboriginal youth and help them gain skills and capacities to enhance employment skills and academic studies through hands-on learning experiences in community service projects in Canada, developing countries and emerging economies.

"From 2009 to 2013, over 500 Aboriginal youth volunteers were recruited, trained and placed in Youth leaders in Action teams that supported overseas partners delivery of health and environment community projects around the world", concluded Ms. Karakas.
