GUELPH, ON, Jan. 25, 2013 /CNW/ - Canada's Environment Minister, the Honourable Peter Kent, spoke to the Guelph Chamber of Commerce today about Government of Canada initiatives to strengthen environmental protection. Minister Kent is also meeting with community stakeholders to discuss their priorities for the upcoming federal Budget.
"I'm delighted to be in Guelph today," said Minister Kent. "The value of our environment and its significance are well understood by our Government. We recognize that conservation and environmental protection are very important to well-being of all Canadians."
Minister Kent outlined the Government of Canada's commitment to ensuring that Canadians have access to fresh water, clean air, and a healthy environment. Through sound science, strong leadership, and productive partnerships, the Government of Canada has advanced initiatives towards protecting and restoring the Great Lakes, increasing land conservation, and protecting endangered species.
Minister Kent highlighted efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address climate change. He also pointed to the important role of science in driving the development of world-class regulations in Canada.
