Canada's Greenest School Contest Kicks Off
WINNIPEG, March 23 /CNW/ - A new contest looking to find Canada's Greenest School was recently announced by IC Bus, manufacturer of the first production hybrid school bus in North America.
First prize in the contest includes a new $200,000 Hybrid School Bus, a "green" school audit by a LEED accredited professional and a $3,000 Student Scholarship.
Tom Rossi, Principal at Ecole Robert H. Smith School in the River Heights area of Winnipeg is excited about using the contest to challenge students to think about how they could make their school experience the greenest in the country. "This gives us a fresh way to reinforce the message of sustainability," says Mr. Rossi.
IC School Buses are sold through dealers across North America. Maxim Truck & Trailer, headquartered in Winnipeg, is the exclusive dealer of IC Buses in Manitoba. "Over 1.3 billion litres of passenger car fuel is saved in Canada every year by students riding school buses, says Troy Gording, Bus Sales Manager at Maxim Truck & Trailer. "This contest underscores the value of riding the bus to school in order to reduce environmental emissions."
Manitoba students are encouraged to submit an entry explaining what they'd do if they were in charge of making their school a greener, more eco-friendly place. Entries can be in the form of a photo collection, music, a video, an essay, or photos of artwork. But no matter what the form, entries must tell Canadians how you'd make your school experience the greenest in the country. All schools are eligible and students of any age can enter (although a parent or teacher will need to sponsor students under 13 years of age). Group or class entries are also encouraged. Entry deadline is April 5, 2010.
