VANCOUVER, May 9, 2013 /CNW/ - Science Rendezvous, Canada's national science festival is bigger and better than ever.
This Saturday over 2,000 of Canada's greatest innovators, researchers, engineers, and scientists, from 80 partner organizations will open their doors and close city streets to present exciting demonstrations, hands-on activities, and explosive experiments.
Sparking the curiosity of young minds, Science Rendezvous has something for the whole family from the chemistry of ice cream to the physics of rock and roll.
Science Rendezvous is truly an iconic national event. Across Canada, there will be experiments and activities for the kids, lectures for the adults, and interactive demonstrations for people of all ages. It's all FREE!
UBC Science Rendezvous: A Day of Exploration
Explore real science at UBC's Science Rendezvous. Meet and talk to scientists from the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, Chemistry, Environmental Interfaces Laboratory, Genetic Data Centre, Let's Talk Science, Mathematics, Michael Smith Laboratories, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Physics and Astronomy, and the Pollution Control and Waste Management Group. Learn and play through hands-on activities and exclusive tours of UBC's research facilities.
New this year at UBC's Science Rendezvous include:
- "The Wonderful World of Cooties in the Pond" - work in a real research lab and collect your own pond sample to see what you can find.
- The Amazing Science Chase - A scavenger hunt-style challenge of both mind and body! Build a rocket and complete other science challenges to win a prize!
- "Look, I'm a Chemist!" - Experience the wonders of chemistry with our entertaining and hands-on activities, from a chemistry-themed photo booth to delicious liquid nitrogen ice cream!

Kwantlen Polytechnic University presents Science Rendezvous 2013
Kwantlen Polytechnic University's Langley Campus will transform into a spectacular science experience on Saturday, May 11. The public will get a chance to participate in hands-on experiments, and walk through chemistry, biology, physics and geography laboratories. See a demonstration of the high-tech patient simulators in the nursing laboratories, discover our state-of-the-art greenhouses and learn about how KPU is making its mark on Canadian science.
