Canada's Next Top Comic 2010 Winner Announced in XM Canada's Second Annual
Contest
Comedian Matt O'Brien captures the 2010 title as Canada's favourite funnyman
TORONTO, Sept. 1 /CNW/ - XM Canada today announced that young and outspoken Toronto comedian Matt O'Brien has been named Canada's Next Top Comic. XM Canada, the country's leading audio entertainment company, will officially present O'Brien with the crown on Laugh Attack (XM 153) at 7:00 a.m. ET today as a part of the company's ongoing commitment to encourage and develop Canadian talent.
Narrowed down from eight finalists, O'Brien joked his way to the top and secured the win to become the second comedian to hold the title of Canada's Next Top Comic. The runner up was emerging comedian Leland Klassen of Abbotsford, British Columbia, and Torontonian Jeff Elliott finished in third place.
O'Brien, also known as O.B. (a nickname that he jokingly said he shares with a slightly more famous feminine hygiene product), showcased his talent in a five minute audio recording. He kept audiences in hysterics as he joked about funny life observational bits that include the "right" way to plan a surprise party and what dreams can do to our bodies. To hear more, check out O'Brien's winning submission and original sense of humour at www.CanadasNextTopComic.com/finalists.php.
In addition to having the bragging rights of being named Canada's Next Top Comic, O'Brien has also won $2,000 cash, a spot to appear live at a major Canadian comedy festival, and a professionally recorded CD of his performance. Watch for Matt at the Global ComedyFest Vancouver event on Wednesday, September 22nd where he will perform his best material as he grows his profile and expands his comedic career.
