OTTAWA, Sept. 24, 2012 /CNW/ - The Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries (CADSI) welcomes the federal government's continued progress towards a more strategic way of conducting defence procurement, as reported by Steven Chase of the Globe and Mail.
CADSI is a strong proponent of a Defence Procurement Strategy for Canada that will ensure Canadian troops get the right equipment they need while creating high-value jobs in Canada and building domestic industrial capability and capacity for the future. CADSI's recommendations for a Defence Procurement Strategy would also serve to strengthen Canadian security and sovereignty, while ensuring better outcomes and greater efficiencies in the procurement process.
"With a number of significant military procurements in the federal government's pipeline, it is important to work quickly to ensure Canadian industry is employed strategically and in a meaningful way," said Tim Page, President of CADSI. "We know what the defence and security sector can accomplish, in terms of creating jobs, stimulating the economy, driving innovation and contributing to Canadian export success. We can realize this potential when and as the government implements a Defence Procurement Strategy that capitalizes on Canada's key industrial capabilities and helps to nurture capabilities of strategic value to Canada's future."
CADSI is the voice of Canada's defence and security industries. CADSI represent over 900 member companies who are essential contributors to Canada's national defence and security. The sectors employs 109, 000 Canadians and generated over 12.6 billion dollars to the Canadian economy in 2011
