Canadian Automobile Dealers Association Chief Economist Economic Update
OTTAWA, Feb. 10, 2012 /CNW/ -
WHO: | Canadian Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) Chief Economist Michael Hatch |
WHAT: | CADA Chief Economist will hold a media teleconference to provide his economic update on the state of the retail automotive industry in Canada ahead of the Canadian International Auto Show. |
WHEN: | Monday, February 13, 2012 at 12 PM EST. |
WHERE: |
By teleconference. Dial in number: (888) 231-8191 Conference ID: 52418577 |
WHY: | For Canada's new car dealers, 2011 was a positive year, one in which the industry continued to rebound from a tough recession in 2008 and 2009 to post solid gains. We have recovered the majority of the annual sales lost during those two downturn years. Growth will continue this year, though, like in 2011, at a modest pace. Total demand will likely exceed 1.6 million new vehicles sold, which would bring us back to the average of the 2001-2010 decade. There are, however, several factors that could drive a surprise on the upside of this estimate, and January sales numbers support this view. |
