OTTAWA, July 10, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canadian Red Cross is pleased to announce that ten banks in Canada are accepting cash donations in support of Red Cross relief efforts in Lac-Mégantic following a major fire caused by a train explosion.
"Red Cross teams have been working around the clock to help thousands of people left devastated by this emergency," says Conrad Sauvé, secretary general and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross. "We are grateful to the participating banks for making it easier for Canadians to support Red Cross relief operations underway."
The Canadian Red Cross response to this disaster was immediate. Following the explosion in Lac-Mégantic, the Red Cross deployed teams of volunteers and equipment, including 700 cots, blankets, pillows and hygiene kits, in support of the municipality and to assist those who have been evacuated from their homes.
Canadians wishing to make a financial donation can donate to the Lac-Mégantic fund by calling 1-800-418-1111 or by giving online at www.redcross.ca. Canadians can also visit their local Red Cross office or one of the participating banks in Canada listed below. Cheques should be made payable to the Canadian Red Cross and earmarked Lac-Mégantic Explosions.
