Canadian Bar Association Recognizes Outstanding Contributions of National Pensions and Benefits Law Section Français
Both Chair and Vice-Chair of Pensions Section are Morneau Shepell counsel – first time in Sections history
TORONTO, Aug. 20, 2014 /CNW/ - Morneau Shepell is pleased to announce that the National Pensions and Benefits Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), Chaired by Larry Swartz, counsel at Morneau Shepell, has won the National Sections Council Award of Excellence.
Along with Larry Swartz, Lyne Duhaime, a Pension Principal in Morneau Shepell's Montreal office, is the Pensions Section's Vice-Chair. This is the first year both the Chair and Vice-Chair of the Pensions Section have been from the same firm.
"It is truly an honour knowing Morneau Shepell is well-represented in the National Pensions and Benefits Section and the CBA has recognized our efforts in the promotion of pensions and benefits issues throughout the country," says Larry Swartz, Chair of the Section. "With more than 30 Sections in the CBA, this is the first time this award has gone to the Pensions Section," he adds.
The National Pensions and Benefits Section represents diverse interests within the pension and benefits legal community. It promotes issues of advocacy and government relations, professional development as well as liaising with other pensions and benefits organizations in Canada and around the world.
The National Sections Council Award of Excellence recognizes a National Section which engages in activities that promote Sections and provides service to CBA members or furthers the objectives of the National Sections Council or CBA. It also recognized the outstanding contribution made by the Pensions and Benefits Law Section. Some of the criteria in award selection include innovation, increased membership, and excellence in communication and excellence in contributing to CBA advocacy work.
The award ceremony took place at the CBA Council meeting August 14, 2014, in St. John's, Newfoundland.
