TORONTO, June 18, 2012 /CNW/ - The Canadian Cancer Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Marc Généreux as national chair, effective June 17, 2012. Mr Généreux, a lawyer in Montreal, will lead the Society's national Board of Directors, composed of volunteers from across Canada.
"The Society is Canada's best not-for-profit and community-based organization to fight cancer and I am honoured to be leading our volunteers as we make progress against this disease," says Mr Généreux.
"Like many Canadians, my family has been touched by cancer, but my work with the Society has allowed me to turn the feelings of sadness and helplessness into something positive - a way to fight back against cancer. I firmly believe in the Society and its mission. I believe that by working together, the organization will continue to make great strides to eradicate cancer."
Mr Généreux has been involved with the Society as a leadership volunteer at both the divisional and national levels for the last 16 years, during which he has held several prominent volunteer positions. He served on the Board of Directors of the Quebec Division between 1997 and 2007 in executive positions, including president, acted as chair for the division's revenue development committee and has been a member of the national board for the last six years.
As a member of the Society's national board, Mr Généreux helped to plan and host a pan-Canadian meeting in Montreal that brought together Society staff and volunteers to create a strategy to help steer the work of the organization. He was also awarded the Medal of the Queen Jubilee for his volunteer work with the Society and was named honorary life member of the Society in 2008.
Currently a partner with the law firm Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP in Montreal, Mr Généreux works mainly in the areas of mortgage and real estate financing and real estate development.
