Canadian Council of Child and Youth Advocates encourages all Canadians to recognize children's rights on National Child Day Français
TORONTO, Nov. 20, 2016 /CNW/ - As Canada marks the 25th anniversary of Canada's ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) today on National Child Day, the Canadian Council of Child and Youth Advocates encourages all Canadians to reflect on its commitment to all young people whose rights are enshrined under the convention.
"The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child must become more than an aspirational document for Canada's children", said Irwin Elman, President of the Canadian Council of Child and Youth Advocates (CCCYA). "On National Child Day, we recognize the young people in Canada who still struggle for the same rights that come so easily to others."
The council is a body comprised of the 11 independent Child and Youth Advocates in Canada's provinces and territories. Each member of the CCCYA promotes and honours the principles and rights ascribed within the UNCRC.
"National Child Day provides the council and the country an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to upholding every young person's rights. We encourage all Canadians to join us in doing so." said Elman.
