CANADIAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION HONOURS KEN WADE WITH FREDERICK G. BANTING
AWARD
EDMONTON, AB & DRYDEN, ON, Oct. 22 /CNW/ - The Canadian Diabetes Association is pleased to present Ken Wade with the 2010 Frederick G. Banting Award. The award was presented to Ken Wade at a special awards ceremony which were part of the Association's Annual General Meetings held during the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) / Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (CSEM) Professional Conference held in Edmonton, October 20-23.
"I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive this award," said Ken Wade. "I was inspired to volunteer as my wife had type 1 diabetes. Throughout my life, I have strived to help people with diabetes in anyway I could. The challenges have been many. However, the fruits of my efforts were always very gratifying."
The intent of the Frederick G. Banting Award is to recognize a significant contribution to either preventing diabetes and chronic disease in Canada or to improving the quality of life of individuals affected by diabetes nationwide.
"Between Ken and his late wife Helen, over 100 years of service was dedicated to helping people with diabetes live better lives," said John Trevisanutto, Regional Chair, Canadian Diabetes Association. "Ken has been both a volunteer and employee of the Canadian Diabetes Association and his contributions have made a difference in the lives of many, including children and their families living with diabetes, with his hard work and big heart."
"The Canadian Diabetes Association is proud to recognize the achievements of its volunteers and partners. The Association could not meet its mandate without the outstanding help and support it continues to receive from individuals and organizations across the country. This year's awards nominees and recipients have all truly helped to make a difference in the lives of the more than 9 million Canadians living with diabetes or prediabetes," said Arlene Kuntz, Chair, National Awards Committee for the Canadian Diabetes Association. "On behalf of the Canadian Diabetes Association, I offer to all our award winners our congratulations for their dedication and hard work, as well our sincere gratitude and appreciation of the efforts of all those who were nominated."
