Canadian Multiculturalism Day celebrated at Scarborough Museum

TORONTO, June 27, 2015 /CNW/ - Scarborough Museum and its cultural partners celebrated Canadian Multiculturalism Day today with performances, food and art that highlighted some of the diverse communities thriving in Scarborough and throughout Toronto.  

At this Destination Canada! event, attendees enjoyed spoken-word performances from members of R.I.S.E. (Reaching Intelligent Souls Everywhere) and Brazilian-style acrobatics and martial arts from Sinha Bahia de Capoeira Canada. Toronto's Ballet Creole showcased their contemporary African-Caribbean dance alongside youth photography and art exhibits.

Visitors also engaged in a printing activity led by the InPrint Collective and were able to sample sweet and savoury foods from North and South America.

"This event shows the innovative ways that Scarborough Museum is working with the youth in our community," said Deputy Mayor Glenn De Baeremaeker (Councillor, Ward 38 Scarborough Centre). "It is inspiring to see the talent and dedication of the many young people involved in its planning and performances."

This event is produced by the City's Museums and Heritage Services section and the Scarborough Museum Youth Collective. It is supported by funding from the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Celebrate Canada program.
