Canadian musicians join Bullfrog Power and The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) in the green energy movement
The 47th Annual JUNO Awards and JUNO Week events are bullfrogpowered with green energy
VANCOUVER, March 19, 2018 /CNW/ - Bullfrog Power, Canada's leading green energy provider, and The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (CARAS) are partnering to bullfrogpower The 2018 JUNO Awards and all JUNO Week events in Vancouver, from March 19 to 25, 2018, with clean, renewable energy.
"High profile cultural events like the JUNO Awards play an important role in developing conversation on climate change," said Anthony Santilli, VP, Sales and Marketing, Bullfrog Power. "Bullfrog Power is proud to continue a partnership with CARAS and the JUNO Awards that spans more than a decade."
Canadian musicians are also taking the lead on environmental action: Saskatoon rockers and JUNO Award winners The Sheepdogs are choosing green energy for Changing Colours, their 2018 Canadian tour, and East Coast songstress Tara MacLean is bullfrogpowering her 2018 tour dates.
"A lot of electricity goes into running a show and playing onstage. As a band and as Canadians, it just makes sense to choose green energy as a way to reduce our footprint and take action on climate change," said Sheepdogs drummer Sam Corbett. In addition to choosing Bullfrog Power for The Sheepdogs tour, Corbett also chooses renewable energy for his home.
For The 2018 JUNO Awards and JUNO Week events, Bullfrog Power is ensuring that its generators put 450 MWh of green power into the grid to match the amount of electricity used—enough clean energy to power more than 1,980 households for one week. Across Canada, Bullfrog's green electricity comes from a blend of wind and low-impact hydro power sourced from new Canadian renewable energy facilities.
Choosing Bullfrog Power's green electricity is one of the steps CARAS is taking to enhance the sustainability of the 2018 JUNO Week events. CARAS has practices in place to reduce the carbon footprint of operations and is offsetting over 600 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, the equivalent of taking 6,420 cars off the road for one week! In addition, whenever possible CARAS reduces resource consumption, manages waste and opts for socially and environmentally responsible goods and services.
Over the past decade, major Canadian musicians including Anne Murray, Billy Talent, Blue Rodeo, Dave Carroll, Dave Gunning, k-os and The Tragically Hip have also demonstrated their support for green energy by bullfrogpowering their homes, tours, concerts or companies. Through their partnerships with Bullfrog Power, these Canadian icons reduce their carbon emission footprints and help create awareness about the actions we can all take to reduce climate change.
