Canada's nicest person to be recognized with a $10,000 donation to charity of choice
TORONTO, May 8, 2017 /CNW/ - In honour of Canada's 150th anniversary, Adam van Koeverden, world and Olympic kayaking champion, kicks off the search for Canada's Nicest Person. This month, van Koeverden, takes to social media to encourage Canadians to nominate nice. Stories of nice can be shared by tagging @rootscanada on Facebook or Instagram and hashtagging a picture and a message with #BeNice and #RootsIsCanada. The search will culminate on June 20 with Roots recognizing one Canadian with a $10,000 donation to his or her charity of choice.
"We want to acknowledge those who embody Canadian nice – the kind of nice that takes guts, courage and strength," says van Koeverden. "We're calling on Canadians to nominate nice and let us know who goes above and beyond to champion what they believe in to really make a difference."
Van Koeverden will help select the top 10 finalists. On June 5-18, they will be revealed on roots.com and its social media channels. The public will vote for who they believe is the nicest and Canada's Nicest Person will be announced by van Koeverden on June 20.
Celebrated Canadian actor, Kim Cattrall helped redefine nice when she stated, "'NICE' acknowledges 150 years of extraordinary Canadian historical events that challenged the status quo and brought change nationally and globally. We continue to redefine the word 'NICE' as an active verb."
