OTTAWA, Nov. 22, 2015 /CNW/ - The Canadian Paralympic Committee is pleased to congratulate Tricia Smith, an internationally respected sport leader, Olympic rower and accomplished lawyer, who was elected earlier today as president of the Canadian Olympic Committee.
"On behalf of the Canadian Paralympic Committee, our congratulations to Tricia as she embarks on her presidency," said Gaétan Tardif, President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee. "Tricia brings inclusive, positive leadership to the Canadian Olympic movement. Her decades of experience in both sport and the law are unmatched. She always puts the athletes and coaches first and believes strongly in the positive power of sport.

Smith is a four-time Olympian and won a silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games. A successful business owner and lawyer, she has a 30-year involvement with the Canadian Olympic Committee, is a member of the International Council of Arbitration for Sport and is Chair of the FISA (international rowing federation) women's commission. She served two terms as vice-president of the Canadian Olympic Committee.
