Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation Recognizes Exceptional Students at the 2018 Graduate Awards
~Since its inception the Foundation has awarded more than 1.8 million dollars~
TORONTO, Oct. 22, 2018 /CNW/ - The Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation (CST) awarded 13 exceptionally talented Canadian students with the Graduate Awards at the Sheraton Hotel in Toronto on September 17, 2018. To recognize some of the brightest young minds in Canada, CST proudly presented awards of $10,000 to each graduate student to support their academic ambition. In addition, CST Consultants Inc. (a subsidiary of CST) granted $6,000 scholarships to two very deserving high school grads to help pay for their undergraduate programs.
The Graduate Awards is a pivotal annual event that builds into CST's mission of making higher education accessible and attainable for Canadian families. Supporting the dreams of each of these future leaders is a consistent part of CST's mission.
"We're proud to recognize these young men and women who represent some of Canada's best and brightest," said Sherry MacDonald, President and CEO of CST. "These exceptional individuals have demonstrated great focus, determination, and willingness to help their communities grow. Through the Graduate Awards, we not only have the opportunity to support these future leaders, but also become a part of their unique stories."
"I am excited and grateful to have won the Graduate Award this year. My dream is to work within my community as a speech pathologist and this award has helped me choose what I am passionate about instead of a more financially feasible option. I will now be able to focus on my two-year intensive program", said Natasha Goncharenko, winner of the Rowland Lloyd Award.
"Winning this award is a dream come true!", said Ruth Lebelo-Almaw, winner of the Elizabeth B. Wright Award, at the event. "Thanks to CST I will be able to pursue a master's program in development practice and work towards finding sustainable solutions to global issues of sanitation and water scarcity. This will be my first step towards following my passion of bringing change in developing nations."
The Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation Graduate Award program was established in 1984 to recognize academically gifted and socially active Canadian Scholarship Trust Plan RESP beneficiaries who have earned a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution and intend to enroll in another degree program at another recognized institution to continue their education.
Each of the awards has been named after the organization's founders and long-standing board members to honour their contribution and support. Since its inception, the Foundation has awarded more than 1.8 million dollars to 278 of CST's RESP beneficiaries.
