Canadian Sikh Community Hosts Conference On November 1984 Sikh Genocide
- India's Independence Day Marked By Examining Its Past -
TORONTO, Aug. 13 /CNW/ - In collaboration with the human rights advocacy group Sikhs for Justice, the Canadian Sikh community is hosting a conference welcoming thought leaders and families impacted by the November 1984 Sikh Genocide to document and discuss the mass killing of Sikhs.
WHEN: August 15, 2010 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. WHERE: Crown Banquet Hall 6835 Professional Court Mississauga, ON WHY: More than 3,000 Sikhs were killed in November 1984 following the assignation of Indira Gandhi, but some estimate that the organized genocide that followed actually led to the killing of more than 30,000 Sikhs. To date, the Indian government has failed to bring anyone to justice for the crimes despite evidence implicating members of the Indian National Congress.
