MISSISSAUGA, ON, June 19, 2012 /CNW/ - The Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services (ACSESS) releases the Canadian Staffing Index for May of 2012.
The Canadian Staffing Index was 107 in May of 2012, as compared to the industry value of 100 when the Index was first introduced exactly four years ago. The May value represents a strong 26% year-over-year increase from May of 2011.
"May is the eight consecutive month with the Index above one hundred, and shows double digit year-over-year growth," says Timothy Landhuis, Research Analyst at Staffing Industry Analysts. "This clearly shows that the industry is now solidly above pre-recession levels in terms of the volume of demand for temporary staffing".
ACSESS president Bryan Toffey notes that "the reading of 107 demonstrates the continued resiliency of the Canadian economy despite the small 4% sequential decrease from the Index value of 111 in April". "Given all of the uncertainty in the headlines surrounding global financial markets it is not surprising to see some pull back in the number of temporary hours worked". ACSESS concludes that while Canada is not immune from the world economies, this report is a positive real-time indicator for current staffing and employment trends.
