MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 23, 2012 /CNW/ - The Association of Canadian Search, Employment and Staffing Services (ACSESS) releases the Canadian Staffing Index for April of 2012.
The Canadian Staffing Index rose by 4% over the index value of 107 in March, representing a 32% increase in the past 12 months. The Index is based on reported billed hours for temporary staffing from a survey of leading staffing firms, and the continued growth is seen as a positive sign for the Canadian economy.
"The April Index value represents the seventh consecutive month of double-digit year-over-year growth," says Timothy Landhuis, Research Associate at Staffing Industry Analysts. "This clearly shows that the industry is solidly above pre-recession levels in terms of the volume of demand for temporary staffing, as the index value of 100 corresponds to the size of the industry in July of 2008."
Bryan Toffey, ACSESS National President, and Regional Vice-President of Aerotek's Canadian Operations, adds "the Index is a valuable tool both for benchmarking purposes within our own companies and as a pulse on the economy; as the Index is not seasonally adjusted we might expect to see some reduction in the summer months, however, I am confident the upward trend will continue as we head into the Fall".
