MONTREAL, June 14, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Since launching the FixMeStick computer virus removal device 12 months ago the company has sold over 15K devices, received impressive reviews, signed major retail distribution deals, and did it all profitably.
Today FixMeStick (http://www.fixmestick.com) released its first year milestones and the company has developed into a promising new Canadian business. Highlights from FixMeStick's first year include:
The road less traveled
The co-founders of the Montreal-based FixMeStick, Corey Velan and Marty Algire, have made a string of decisions that run counter to startup practices. They bootstrapped their company with their own money versing seeking venture capital, they built a PC accessory while futurists call the end of PCs, and they market their product using old school media like radio versus Twitter and Facebook. "We're not trying to be contrarian," notes Corey, "We just test a lot and invest in what's working."
A rocky beginning
9 days into their launch they noticed an error in the manufacturing process that could cause the FixMeStick to stop working on a small percentage of PCs. Despite being in their midst of their launch, and near the end of their cash after a year of research and development, they decided to ship every customer a free replacement FixMeStick. "It was emotionally tough," says co-founder Marty Algire. "But Corey and I enjoy treating customers the way we like to be treated, that made it an easy decision."
