Canadian Students Can Further Close Financial Gap with DeVry's New Bursary
Bursary to cover tuition financial aid gaps by up to $1,700 per semester three times annually
CALGARY, June 26, 2012 /CNW/ - DeVry Institute of Technology is pleased to announce a new bursary for Canadian students in need of financial support. The bursary is the first of its kind for DeVry and is valued at $1,700 per semester for each of DeVry's three annual semesters. DeVry's new nationwide bursary provides students who have financial limitations with the tuition relief and encouragement they need to pursue a post-secondary education. The lifetime value of the bursary is $15,300.
"The appropriate higher education plays such a huge role in our mission to develop an internationally trained professional talent pool as a crucial component of future workforce planning strategies," says Bruce Randall, executive director of the Calgary Regional Immigrant Employment Council. "DeVry's bursary now makes very relevant career-oriented bachelor degree programs more accessible and affordable to a demographic of people who are ready and able to help address upcoming labour shortages and keep our nation competitive with the world. It's a classic win-win for professionals in every province of Canada."
Eligibility for the DeVry Institute of Technology Opportunity Bursary is based on financial need. As an example: A student who finds that the funds available from all financial aid sources for which she qualifies only covers 90 per cent of her tuition each semester, the DeVry Institute of Technology Opportunity bursary of up to $1,700 per semester can close the gap between the cost of tuition and all financial aid sources that otherwise might make higher education unattainable.
"This bursary is one of the many steps DeVry is taking to help more students get the education needed to pursue their careers," explains Ranil Herath, president of DeVry. "The last thing we want is to see bright, ambitious people foregoing post-secondary education because of financial barriers."
