TORONTO, Sept. 30, 2015 /CNW/ - Canada will have a strong presence at MIPJunior and MIPCOM 2015, the world's leading audiovisual content market. The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and Telefilm Canada are spearheading an exciting program that focuses on Canadian creativity and talent in science edutainment for children and sci-fi productions targeting millennials. Canadian industry leaders are also contributing to sharing the country's expertise and successes on topics such as apps, streaming platforms, and 4K Ultra HD (UHD).
Science Edutainment for Little Geeks
On October 3 at MIPJunior, Canada will present four original edutainment multiplatform productions that focus on science. Canadian productions featured in the showcase are: L'Académie Secrète (Trio Orange), Annedroids (Sinking Ship Entertainment), Look Kool / C'est Wow (Apartment 11 Productions), and Prime Radicals (GAPC Entertainment). The following day, Blair Powers, producer and partner with Sinking Ship Entertainment, will take part in a panel that will discuss innovative storytelling to learn across multiple devices.
The Allure of Escapism: Engaging Millennials
On October 6 at MIPCOM, David Cormican, Executive Vice-President, Business Development & Production and Partner at Don Carmody Television will pair up with John Young, Managing Director and Partner at Temple Street Productions on a panel discussion about how sci-fi Canadian productions Between and Killjoys appeal to the ever-elusive millennials and other fans. Cast members from both productions, themselves millennials, will contribute to the discussion.
Ambassadors to the world
Talent representing Canadian productions will be meeting with press from around the world and will walk MIPCOM's opening night red carpet on the evening of October 5, including Karine Vanasse, lead actress and Luc Dionne, writer, from the new suspense series Blue Moon (Aetios Productions), which is set to launch in 2016; Jesse Carere and Justin Kelly actors from Between (Don Carmody Productions); Hannah John-Kamen and Aaron Ashmore from the cast of Killjoys (Temple Street Productions); and David Rocco, host of cooking shows including David Rocco's Dolce India, David Rocco's—Amalfi Gateway and David Rocco's Dolce Vita (Rockhead Entertainment), and Ricardo Larrivée, chef, author, and entrepreneur of Ricardo (Attraction Images) and co-developer of the new series Chef in Your Ear (HLP).
Canadian speakers throughout the market
In addition to seeing Canadian talent at the red carpet events, content creators will share their expertise in panel conversations on topics that range from apps and streaming platforms to pitches and 4K Ultra HD (UHD).
Catherine Warren, Founder and President at FanTrust Entertainment Strategies, will moderate two panels that focus on streaming. The first panel will be a discussion about the impact of Over the Top (OTT) on reaching new audiences and creating compelling content for the streaming generation. During the second panel, Warren will engage in a conversation with companies from France and the USA that are into content streaming and disrupting the global video ecosystem. On the last day, she will also take part in a panel on the most buzz-worthy trends of the market.
Carole Bonneau, Vice-President, French Programming, Content Acquisitions, Corus Media and Jared Dielwart, Chief Content Officer, Kidoodle.TV will both be part of matchmaking sessions where content creators will be able to pitch their projects and cement new partnerships.
MIPCOM'S 4K UHD special screenings will provide screenings using the new technology 4K UHD. Blue Ant Media Solutions' Solange Attwood, Senior Vice-President, International and Vanessa Case, Executive Vice-President, Content will both speak about their experiences with the technology at the event.
The Canada Pavilion at MIPCOM
The Canada Pavilion, coordinated by Telefilm Canada, is funded this year by the Canada Media Fund, Creative BC, the Canadian Media Production Association, Manitoba Film and Music and the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC). The Pavilion will host some 70 Canadian companies. The Pavilion will also serve as the venue for a networking reception on Tuesday, October 6, which will be open to all delegates from Canada and guests from many international communities.
