Canadian Teachers' Federation to make private presentation to Dalai Lama in
celebration of World Teachers' Day

OTTAWA , Sept. 29 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Teachers' Federation (CTF) is honored to make a private presentation to the Dalai Lama, on Oct. 3 , at the Bell Center in Montréal. At that time, CTF President Mary-Lou Donnelly will present him with a framed copy of the Federation's 2009 World Teachers' Day poster along with the three winning student essays that focus on peace and the environment. The private session will take place immediately after his 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. public presentation. The five-person CTF delegation includes Mary-Lou Donnelly, CTF President, Heather MacIsaac, winner of the Federation's 2009 World Teachers' Day poster contest, as well as Daniel Jewson, Miggel Huard and Emily Ritson , the three students who won the CTF student essay contest.

The Peace: Live it. Teach it. teacher poster contest and the Peace Education student essay contest were organized by CTF with financial support from the Green Street program.

The Dalai Lama's 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. public talk is entitled Educating the Heart: The Power of Compassion. More information: www.dalailamamontreal2009.org.

Earlier that day, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a,m., the Dalai Lama will make a presentation on education, ethics and religion in today's world. October 5th , World Teachers' Day, is an annual celebration of the valuable work of teachers in Canada and around the globe. World Teachers' Day was the brainchild of a former Canadian teacher leader, Norman Goble . First recognized in 1994, World Teachers' Day now profiles the work of over 55 million teachers around the world.
